Our philosophy
At BailaBien, we believe you learn better when you're having fun. Here are the few principles that guide every one of our classes.
Dance for everyone
We dance in rueda, in a circle: no partner needed to sign up, and every level has its place. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned dancer, you'll find your slot.
Authentic Cuban salsa
We teach salsa the way it's danced in Cuba (casino, son, feeling) rather than a watered-down version. That's what makes the difference, and that's what keeps the dance alive.
Leading and letting yourself be led
Dancing salsa as a couple isn't about each person memorizing a figure on their own side. The way it's often taught elsewhere: for every figure, both partners have to know their steps and directions in advance, then execute them at the same time. We start from the connection instead. The leader guides, the other lets themselves be carried: no need to have memorized everything on both sides; it's the frame, the posture and the lead that take you into the figure, in real time. So from the very basics we work on feel, position and the circularity of the movement, to truly dance together rather than side by side. It's the approach we went to learn in Havana.
Community over performance
Here there's no competition and no judgment: kindness, mutual support and lots of laughter. We progress together, each at their own pace, in a friendly atmosphere.
Progressing through enjoyment
Our teachers take the time to explain, to go back over the steps slowly when needed, and to make every class a genuine moment of fun. Progress comes on its own when you're having a blast.
