Bachata classes in Biel

Bachata is a Dominican dance performed in a close hold: a lateral basic step and that little hip “pop” that lands on the 4th beat. Born in the countryside of the Dominican Republic, somewhere between bolero and Cuban son, it comes in two shades — the traditional one and the sensual one (or moderna), more fluid, which emerged in the 2000s.

At BailaBien, we start from the Dominican style, the foundation, then slip in a touch of sensual once you feel comfortable. No pressure: here you learn to feel the rhythm before trying to make it look pretty.

A class lasts an hour. We start with a light warm-up to get going, then set up the basic step and the famous hip “pop”. Next come the figures, leading and following, before a rotation practice where you dance with several partners. The mood stays relaxed: we laugh, we mess up, we start again, and it moves along fast.

No need to arrive with a partner: we dance in rotation, so you come on your own or with someone, either way works. We welcome all levels, from beginners who've never danced to the most advanced, with five tiers so everyone progresses at their own pace. The first hour is free, no strings attached — you try it and see.

Classes take place in Biel's city centre, in our two studios: Rue du Canal 36-38 (3rd floor) and Rue de Morat 7 (1st floor). You dance in a bilingual city, where French and German speakers cross paths easily. And since bachata is the ideal complement to salsa, you can combine the two — or add kizomba, offered here in Biel — and enjoy -10%.
